Graceland Cemetery is an extremely significant part of the history of Chicago, and serves as the final resting place for many of its most prominent citizens. Initially designed in 1865, the cemetery was enlarged and modified by famous landscape architects such as Swain Nelson, W.L.B. Jenney, Horace W.S. Cleveland and most significantly O.C. Simonds. The buildings on site were designed by Holabird and Root in the early 1900’s.
The Trustees of Graceland Cemetery retained Eifler & Associates to oversee a monument conservation program and create a sustainable method for preserve and restore many of the significant monuments designed by noted artists and architects. In time, the Trustees came to the conclusion that the two buildings that serve as the administration building and waiting room were in dire need of rehabilitation. Eifler & Associates provided architectural services for the restoration of the buildings in 2001.
