The Lincoln Park Lily Pool
Chicago, Illinois

Eifler & Associates in association with Wolff/Clements was retained by the Chicago Park District to rehabilitate the pavilions at the Lily Pool in Lincoln Park Zoo. This project occurred in conjunction with the restoration of the Lincoln Park Rookery, renamed the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool. Alfred Caldwell, a well-known landscape architect, designed the Lily Pool and its Pavilions in the 1930’s, and are unique in that they resemble sculpture, rather than shelter. The pavilions were remodeled twice through the years, and had fallen into disrepair. Based on historical research, Caldwell’s original drawings and physical evidence, drawings were developed that incorporated both historical elements and new elements, thereby creating more durable structures while retaining the original character of the pavilions. The Lily Pool was rededicated in October 2001.
