The Schwartz (Green) Residence
Wilmette, Illinois

Designed by noted Prairie School Architect Walter Burley Griffin in 1909 for Richard V. Schwartz, an electrical contractor, the Schwartz House is a modest family home surrounded by lush vegetation. The residence is constructed of wood and stucco is highly characteristic of Griffin’s work with its overhanging eaves, continuous bands of glass and wood-mullioned windows. Eifler & Associates was retained by the current owners to design an historically sympathetic addition to the building to accommodate a new study, guest suite, and enlarge the kitchen. Unsympathetic additions built in the 1950’s were first removed prior to the construction of the addition. The project was completed in 2002.
